Investigators attachedto the St Andrew south division believe junior athlete Ricardo Powell is now on the run following the death of a 40-year-old woman last week, for which he is wanted for questioning.

Powell, who has represented Calabar High School in St Andrew in the 200 and 400 metres events, and who has also competed for Jamaica, is a suspect in the death of Nadine Dillworth of a Duhaney Park address.

Reports from the Duhaney Park police who are investigating are that on August 7, Powell and the daughter of Dillworth were involved in an altercation.

A fight developed and Dillworth is said to have intervened and was hit in the head with a stone.

She was rushed to the hospital and admitted in serious condition but later succumbed to her injury.

Following investigations, Powell was identified as a suspect in the woman's death.

Sources from the division told THE STAR that the athlete is now nowhere to be found.

When contacted earlier this week, head of the division, Superintendent Delroy Hewitt, confirmed that the police have been trying to locate Powell but are yet to do so.

Similarly, residents of Duhaney Park who say the incident has angered them, further claim they too are seeking Powell.

caring person

According to them, both him and his mother have fled the community following Dilworth's death.

"Wi vex bout it man, ask round and everybody ago tell yu seh dem vex ... Yu think a police a look fi him? A we want him," one resident who gave his name as Freddy said.

Residents described Dilworth as a caring person who did not deserve to die in such a manner.

"Is a nice lady eno and wi sorry seh she dead dat way ... Now di woman dead and the yute and fi him mother run weh, nobody cyaa find dem," another resident added.

The police confirmed the resident's claim and said efforts to locate Powell's mother have also proved futile.

"Yes it is true, we are yet to locate Powell and or his mother," an officer close to the investigations told THE STAR.

As a result, the police say they will be stepping up their investigations into the matter and hope to locate Powell as soon as possible.

At the last staging of the Boys and Girls' athletic Championships, Powell got into trouble after raising his middle finger to fans in a section of the grandstand at the National Stadium.
