A St Catherine teenager who was caught in the illegal cash- for-gold trade pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30-days hard-labour in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
He is Lance Malcolm, 18-year-old labourer, of Spanish Town, St Catherine.
When the case came up in court yesterday the teen admitted his involvement. He was asked for his licence to trade in second-hand jewellery.
no licence
The court was told, Malcolm did not have a licence.
"I am certain you are aware that you must have a licence to buy and sell gold and other precious metals," Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green told the accused.
Allegations are that in May, the accused was seen by the police in Spanish Town buying gold.
When he was accosted he could not provide them with a licence.
A number of persons have been convicted in the lucrative cash-for-gold trade.
Recently, the police claimed they have renewed the drive against those who continue the illegal act.
