Silly me for thinking the election of a black president would end all racism and related tomfoolery. Nope, it's not another story about some racist sign outside a business, this time it's the products being sold themselves:

Publicity has halted a Hamilton County curiosity shop from selling soap some customers found objectionable.

The soap wrappers feature caricatures and names that some viewed as racially charged or objectionable to [blacks]. The wrappers are modern reproductions of soap sold until the 1930s, but the name of the manufacturer was not available from shop owner Gary Dewester, who did not return a call seeking comment.

The shop had sold the bars of soap for 10 years with little fanfare until local blogger Kelly Jones-Sharp saw them while Christmas shopping and posted a complaint. The post gained media attention and caused the owners of the Logan Village Mall to threaten terminating Dewester's lease if he didn't stop selling the soap.

Dewester has told various media outlets he sold 20 to 30 bars of soap a year, but in less than a half-hour Wednesday, nearly a dozen people entered the downtown Noblesville shop to purchase multiple bars. Several signed a contact sheet so Dewester could sell the soap to them directly.

"I'm disappointed we can't buy it," said Don Davis, who came into the store with another customer to buy the soap for Christmas gifts. "This is still America."

Yes, Mr. Davis, it is indeed still America. I'd suspect it's not the decade, or century you'd personally prefer, but it's still America. Seriously though, who the hell buys darkie soap bars as stocking stuffers? A blogger's racial complaint turned out to be the best ad for "Darkie Soap" imaginable? Really?!?!
