A man who is accused of holding up his friend with a gun and robbing him of his cellular phone, was remanded when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court, recently.

He is Radcliffe Hemmings, a 34-year-old labourer from Waterford in Portmore, St Catherine.

When the case was mentioned before Resident Magistrate (RM) Marcia Dunbar-Green, Hemmings pleaded not guilty to charges of illegal possession of firearm and robbery with aggravation.

"Your Honour is lie dem telling on me maam as me and the man a good friend and just because him an some odda man have problem, a dat is why dem charge mi. A pure fight mi a get,'' Hemmings told RM Dunbar-Green.

The RM told him that he can give his explanation at the Gun Court on January 18, where the matter will again be mentioned.

Allegations before the court are that on December 21, about 12:30 p.m., Hemmings was in the company of the complainant who was his friend.

The court heard that they were walking along Middleton Road in Bridgeport, Portmore, when Hemmings asked the complainant for his cellphone. After being told that there was no credit on the instrument, he reportedly insisted on getting the phone, saying he wanted to send a text.

It was further heard that Hemmings was given the phone and when he finished using it, the complainant asked that it be handed back to him. This was not done and when the complainant insisted, it is alleged that Hemmings reportedly brandished a handgun and pointed it at the complainant.

A report was made and following investigations, Hemmings was held six days later. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
