ARMED thugs yesterday morning reportedly made off with over $50 million after hijacking a car with three security guards on board along East Road, off Hagley Park Road, in Kingston.
The thieves also relieved one of the security guards of his .38 Smith & Wesson revolver and 12 rounds of ammunition before escaping.
The stolen cash was destined for various banks in the Corporate Area.
According to the Constabulary Communication Network, a Suzuki Liana motor car in which the guards were travelling was rammed by a blue Honda motor car around 8 o'clock after stopping to give way to other motorists. The guards were held up by the men in the blue Honda while surveying the damage to their vehicle.
The robbers made good their escape in both vehicles. The hijacked car was abandoned along Greenwich Street, in the Kingston 12 inner-city community of Rema.
Up to press time yesterday the three guards, who were unharmed, were being questioned by detectives from the Hunts Bay Police Station.
