AN inspector from the Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) was yesterday admitted to hospital in serious condition after a piece of concrete from a deteriorating section of a building at the Kingston Mall fell and hit him in the head.
Colleagues of the inspector, who they identified as Anthony White, said he sustained a major gash on his head and was knocked unconscious by the concrete.
The incident occurred early yesterday afternoon.
Up to late evening doctors were still assessing his condition, head of the Police Federation Sergeant Raymond Wilson told the Observer.
"I have been here since 4:00, and we are still here making sure that everything is all right with him," Wilson said last night, noting that doctors had managed to revive the unconscious policeman.
"From what I know, doctors have revived him, and they are doing some tests to find out what exactly his condition is," he said.
"It is an unfortunate situation; what it meant is that another police officer could have been killed and we are grateful that that was not the outcome. We hope that he will receive the proper medical care, which will not only result in him getting better, but will ensure that his injuries are not life-threatening," said Wilson.
