COMMISSIONER of Police Owen Ellington has ordered the transfer of 117 cops in this week's Force Orders in an attempt to put more cops on the street and further drive down the murder rate.
A total of five superintendents, 29 deputy superintendents, three assistant superintendents and 80 inspectors have been redeployed to police divisions and units islandwide.
Deputy Superintendent Carol McKenzie has been transferred from the St Thomas division to the St Andrew Central Division while Deputy Superintendent Steve Moodie, who once served on the executive of the Police Federation, will leave the New Horizon Remand Centre and join McKenzie at the St Andrew Central Division.
Most of the cops who have been transferred have been taken from formations and deployed in police divisions.
Murders have trended downwards following the incursion by the security forces into the garrison community of Tivoli Gardens, West Kingston in an attempt to serve an arrest warrant on Christopher 'Dudus' Coke in May last year.
There was a 44 per cent drop in the number of murders committed over the first three months of 2011 when compared with the similar period last year.
