A man who had cocaine extracted from his stomach was fined $20,000 or six months' imprisonment when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court.
He is Nathaniel Shelton of Florida, USA.
When Shelton, 37, appeared before Simone Wolfe-Reece he pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine.
Shelton told the court he had the cocaine and he was not dealing in cocaine. He is to reappear on September 27 to answer to that charge.
Detective Sergeant Cecil Lawrence of the Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division told the court that about 5 p.m., on July 19, Shelton went to the Spanish Town Hospital complaining of stomach pains.
Tests were conducted and surgery recommended. The doctors recovered an oblong package weighing two ounces from his stomach.
It was later tested and found to be powdered cocaine.
An investigation was launched which resulted in Shelton being charged with possession of and dealing in cocaine.
