A Manchester woman and her 15-year-old daughter are now living in fear following a gang rape which took place with her child earlier this year.
Mary Smith* told THE STAR that her daughter who attends school in a neighbouring community was gang-raped by five men.
"My daughter was on her way home from school on May 27 when she was held by the five of them who raped her. They are well known from the community," said Smith.
She said the police have been investigating the incident since it took place and have even visited the community in an effort to apprehend the five men, but to no avail.
The woman said the young men who frequent Kingston are aware that the police are in pursuit of them, and as result have been sending death threats to her and her family.
"They and their family members who reside in the community have been sending messages to me and my daughter especially. Members of their family have been asking me to drop the case; and that if I don't drop it, they are going to kill me and my daughter. I am worried that the police are not doing enough to apprehend the men," explained the distressed mother.
Her daughter, who is a fourth-form student, said that since the ordeal she has had sleepless nights and has not been able to concentrate on her lessons. She said that she is fearful for her life as the many death threats are becoming a nightmare.
"Since they raped me, they have been sending threats that they are going to kill me for the case to be finished. Right now, I am afraid to even walk on the street to go to school. I can hardly concentrate on my lessons," said the fearful minor.
The student told THE STAR that last Thursday while she was on her way home from school, she was attacked by a group of girls who know the men and are aware of the case. She said one pulled a knife and threatened to stab her and she had to be rescued by persons who were in a nearby supermarket.
She said one of the girls is a friend of the young men who raped her. The latest incident was reported to the police who are carrying out investigations.
When the Christiana police were cont-acted, a source said they are aware of the case and the matter is being thoroughly investigated. The source also confirmed that the community has been visited on a number of occasions to apprehend the men, but each time the police go there, they (men) are not there.
