A Jamaica DefenceForceˆ(JDF) soldier is now in police custody following the killing of a 20-year-old woman, said to be his girlfriend, in Mandeville, Manchester, last night.
Police said the woman died after her throat was slashed about 7:10 p.m.
Up to late last night the police refused to give the name of the dead woman or any other information, but people close to her identified her as Shannel Norris, a student of The Northern Caribbean University (NCU).
The STAR was informed by a close friend of Norris, that she had expressed her willingness to end her relationship for sometime.
Numerous tributes and comments expressing shock, sadness and disbelief were written on Norris' social communication network, Facebook, page shortly after news spread that she had been killed.
Some comments displayed on her page included,
"Life is too short to mess around ... people get your life right before it's your time ... and stop hating on those you are supposed to love ... because before you know it ... they're not around anymore ... RIP Shannel Norris ..... gonna miss you":
"RIP Shannel Norris you will be missed by many."
Norris would have celebrated her 21st birthday in November and had enrolled as a student at NCU in 2007.
