FEMALE COP SHOOTS OFF FINGER...

A woman constable has one less finger after accidentally shooting herself last Monday while loading her weapon.

Information garnered by THE STAR through a number of police sources is that the constable, who is attached to the Island Special Constabulary Force, was at the New Kingston Police Post in St Andrew getting ready to go on duty sometime after 8 a.m. when the accident occurred.

The policewoman, said to be in her early 20s, recently graduated from training school, and was described by at least two other cops who claim to know her as being eager to learn.

"It's a young police, she recently joined the force, just came out of training school, and it is quite a sad case but we have to be thankful because it could have been fatal. I've seen her around and she seems like the kind of person who is always ready to go," a detective corporal attached to the St Andrew Central police told THE STAR.

"She was charging her weapon and it somehow went off and hit her on one of her hands and she lost a finger," another source, a high-ranking officer from the Area 4 police, said.

Efforts to locate and get a comment from the injured policewoman were unsuccessful.
