Police and onlookers watch after a Coaster bus is pulled out of a ravine in Brandon Hill, St Andrew, yesterday.

Twenty-three persons were injured and taken to the Annotto Bay Hospital yesterday after a Coaster bus in which they were travelling plunged into a ravine in Brandon Hill, rural St Andrew.

The mishap happened shortly before midday. The bus was heading from St Mary to Kingston.

While all 23 passengers including the bus driver received injuries ranging from concussions to broken limbs, up to news time there were no reports of any deaths.

But there were anxious moments shortly after the incident when news spread that a two-year-old boy could not be accounted for. Relatives later received word that he was alive and at the hospital receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the police are uncertain as to what caused the bus to go over the precipice. According to a police constable from the Constant Spring Police Station, they are conducting thorough investigations into the incident.

According to a passenger on the bus, the police and passers-by were quick on the scene and helped the passengers who were aboard the bus.

It took a more than two hours after the incident before the bus was finally pulled back on to the roadway.
