A teacher at a prominent Corporate Area high school was convicted yesterday for beating his former girlfriend, who is also a teacher at the same school.
The teacher was sentenced to 120 hours of community service in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court. He was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and malicious destruction of property.
It was revealed that both accused and complainant were in a relationship which eventually ended.
The court heard that two Wednesdays ago, about 8 p.m., the complainant arrived home and was approached by the accused as she walked up her staircase. The accused reportedly emerged from the side of the building and asked her when he was going to be repaid the money which she owed him.
The complainant reportedly replied that she would repay him in due time. It is alleged that the accused then walked up to her and pushed her head into the wall and then headbutted her causing a huge swelling.
Further allegations are that the accused used a piece of hose which he took from his shorts waist to hit her across the back, left hand and left hip, causing bruises and swelling. She was said to have also been pushed down the staircase.
The complainant reportedly got up and knocked on her neighbour's door, seeking help but was pulled away and pushed into rails. She then went again and knocked on her neighbour's door and rushed inside and called the police.
The complainant's car was also damaged in the incident.......
