AN alleged member of a gang of five was chopped to death by a mob in Richmond, St Mary yesterday, after he was accused of carrying out several robberies in that community.

The man killed has been identified as 23-year-old Kareem Powell of Islington in the parish.

Reports from the Richmond Police are that between 12:30 am and 3:00 am, the gang went into the community where they broke into several houses, held the occupants at gunpoint, and reportedly stole an undetermined sum of money and several cellular phones from each household.

An alarm was made and other residents launched a search for the hoodlums. One man was seen and was accused of being in the gang. The residents reportedly held, beat, and chopped him to death then summoned the police.

While the police continue their investigation into the mob killing, they are also appealing to anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of the men who robbed the residents to contact them at 992-0000, Crime Stop at 311, Kingfish at 811, police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station.
