A man accused of defecating in a church was remanded for psychiatric evaluation when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

He is Maurice Cole, a 29-year-old labourer, from Greater Portmore, St Catherine.

Cole, who is charged with simply larceny after he was accused of taking several items from a car parked at his grandfather's home, had his trouble multiplied after the court learnt he had also broken into the house.

This was after the complainant told the court his grandson was a constant problem to him.

The senior citizen said Cole even went into a church on his premises and used it as a toilet.

"Your honour, him entered the house through the roof, him even went inside the church where him defecate. Him really dangerous to me," the complainant said.

He revealed that he was sick with his heart and went for treatment and that was when his grandson struck.

Upon hearing the grandfather's submission, Resident Magistrate (RM) Marcia Dunbar-Green ordered that further investigation be conducted with a view of proffering Cole with a burglary charge.

"You said that he had broken into the house, so it is greater than simple larceny," The RM reasoned. "When person start going inside church to defecate, then you have to have them checked by a doctor."

Cole was subsequently remanded until February 8.

Allegation before the court are that on December 20 about 2 a.m., Cole was caught inside the car. Checks revealed that a digital camera, a cellular phone and $1,500, which were in the vehicle, were missing.

None of these items were recovered. Cole was not represented when he appeared in court.
