It is with great sadness that Guinness World Records has learned of the death of the current Oldest Living Person, Eunice Sanborn, aged 114 years 195 days.
The Texas native passed away in her home in Jacksonville on Monday, January 31st 2011. Eunice leaves behind a wealth of neighbors and friends who have relished the opportunity to know and care for her for the past 50 years.
Eunice has been the Oldest Living Person for almost three months, following the death of Eugenie Blanchard (France) on November 4, 2010.
Guinness World Records can confirm the new Oldest Living Person and Female is now American Besse Berry Brown (b. 26 August 1896). Besse was born in Sullivan County, Tennessee and moved to Georgia, USA in 1917. Besse married and had four children with husband Luther Cooper, who died in 1963.
The greatest fully authenticated age to which any human has ever lived is 122 years 164 days by Jeanne Louise Calment (France). Born on 21 February 1875 to Nicolas (1837 - 1931) and Marguerite (Gilles 1838 - 1924), Jeanne died at a nursing home in Arles, southern France on 4 August 1997.
