The police are reporting that elements in Tivoli Gardens, especially those in the high-rise buildings, are repeatedly attacking police personnel and vehicles by throwing various objects at them while on patrol of the area.
On Thursday night, a police officer from the Mobile Reserve was injured while on duty in Tivoli Gardens. The policeman was hit several times in his chest with stones.
The police high command is appealing to all members who work or patrol in Tivoli Gardens and its environs to do so with extra care and vigilance. Members are being asked to take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety at all times.
calculated attacks
The high command is also warning residents of Tivoli Gardens, who participate in what are clearly unprovoked and calculated attacks on the police and its assets, to stop immediately.
So far, the police said they have not responded to these unprovoked attacks with force. However, they say that they will not shirk their responsibilities to members of the force and the law-abiding citizens of Tivoli Gardens. The high command is urging the good people of Tivoli Gardens to assist by speaking to those who are misled and misguided to stop this assault on the police.
The high command is warning that if these attacks continue, the police will have no alternative but to respond appropriately.
