JPS regularising inner city Kingston electricity supply.......

THE Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says that it will be attempting to have residents regularise their electricity supply in several inner city Kingston communities over the next eight weeks. JPS expects to add 6,700 new customers from the affected communities of Denham Town, Trench Town, Wilton Gardens (more popularly known as Rema) and Rose Town.

As part of the regularisation, Residential Automated Metering Infrastructure (RAMI) will be installed to ensure tamper-proof networks in these communities. In St Catherine, the communities of Naggo Head and Newlands, will also be fully regularised with the RAMI system, within the next eight to 10 weeks.

Ahead of the regularisation, JPS said that its personnel have held meetings with residents and local political representatives in each of the communities. It is also offering interest-free house wiring loans to help residents prepare to safely receive their electricity supply.

Several other inner city communities are scheduled to receive the tamper-proof network by year-end. These include: Arnett Gardens (more popularly known as Jungle), Whitfield Town, Payne Land, Greenwich Town in Kingston; Flanker and Providence Heights in Montego Bay; and Central Village in St Catherine.

JPS estimates that the regularisation of these communities will add a further 15,000 customers.
