(CNN) -- Two men died and seven people were injured Sunday when a sailboat capsized off the west end of Shelter Island in San Diego, officials said.
The injured, including three children, were hospitalized and are in stable condition.
Harbor Police received an emergency call on Sunday evening that the sailboat had capsized off Shelter Island, a port of San Diego spokeswoman said. The commercial district is a major tourist attraction.
The 25-foot sailboat was carrying nine people. Two men in their 50s or 60s died.
The local weather was calm and there were no reports of strong winds, police said.
Harbor Police are trying to determine the cause of the accident.
Shelter Island, in the San Diego Bay, is a man-made sandbank connected to the mainland by a strip of land. It is home to the San Diego Yacht Club and a destination for sailing aficionados.
