Residents of the Waterloo community near Ewarton, St Catherine, are hailing one of their own as a modern-day 'David' after he rescued his neighbours from armed robbers with a stone.
Following the incident, Michael 'Baji' Bajnaut a 26-year-old man of Nugent Road, Ewarton, was taken into custody.
Residents claim that two men went on to a property with the intention to rob a female who was there. "Di lickle man si dem, him hide pick up a stone fling it and blaps it ketch him head. Him drop and him fren run lef him," a resident told THE WEEKEND STAR.
It is further said that the accused man was held by several persons and given a sound beating.
According to the police, the incident occurred about 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday when Bajnaut and another man went to the community.
They are alleged to have gone to a woman's home where they demanded partner money. It is said, however, that the accused man was hit with an object, held and unmasked.
He was said to have been wrestled to the ground and a semi-automatic .45 pistol taken away from him.
An angry mob is said to have descended upon him, chopped, stabbed and rained blows all over his body. He reportedly cried out for help but it wasn't until the arrival of the Ewarton police that he was released.
He was taken to the Linstead Hospital in serious condition.
