TRANSPORT minister Mike Henry says that there is no fare increase planned this financial year for the state-run Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC).
Henry who was answering questions from Opposition's transport spokesman Robert Pickersgill, during the second day of sitting of Parliament's Standing Finance Committee at Gordon House in Kingston this morning, said no requests have been made by the JUTC for an increase at this time.
"There is a procedure, if there is a likely fare increase it must be a request from the JUTC and I will revisit," Henry said.
Meantime, the minister expressed confidence that the JUTC would be able to increase revenue from fares from $2.5 billion to $3.5 billion this year. He said that the addition of 100 buses made this a possibility.
