A former wheelclamper and bouncer is going on trial accused of murdering schoolgirl Milly Dowler nine years ago.

Amanda Dowler, 13, known to her family as Milly, disappeared without a trace as she walked home from school in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, in March 2002.

Her decomposing body was found six months later in an isolated spot 25 miles away in Yateley Heath Woods, Hampshire.

Levi Bellfield, 42, formerly of West Drayton, west London, has pleaded not guilty to her murder and kidnap.

He also denies the attempted kidnap of 11-year-old Rachel Cowles who was approached by a man in a red car in Shepperton, Surrey, on the previous day.

The trial at the Old Bailey is due to last two months
