Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force Chaplaincy Unit were up to late yesterday busy counselling three female members of the force who were victims of criminals on Tuesday.
It was revealed that the unit is taking the situation very seriously, especially at a time when stress level is said to be high in the police force.
Reports from the police are that about 9 p.m., the three women were at home in Portmore, St Catherine, when they were pounced upon by two gunmen.
The hoodlums are said to have robbed one of the victims of a service pistol and then proceeded to assault the other two and reportedly raped one in the process.
investigation launched
It was revealed that the traumatised policewomen subsequently made a report to the Portmore police and an investigation was launched.
Meanwhile, a number of persons have decried the attack against the policewomen as an attack on the state. "Can you imagine, criminals a rape off police, then what do you expect them to do to us who depend on the police to protect us? It is very sad," an attorney-at-law said.
Her views were echoed by several other persons who said the criminals were really brazen and will stop at nothing. ''Only God can help us, nobody is safe," Michelle McNa-ughton, a Portmore resident said.
THE WEEKEND STAR was informed that members of the victims' families are also being counselled as a result of the incident.
