MIAMI, United States (CMC) – Popular Jamaican-American singer, Sean Kingston, is finally awake and alert in a Miami hospital, communicating with nods and sign language to family and visitors, the authorities said today.

Kingston, 21, is in the intensive care unit at Jackson Memorial Hospital here after he crashed his personal watercraft into a Miami Beach bridge on Sunday, authorities said. He suffered a broken jaw, fractured wrist and doctors say they are still recovering water from his lungs.

“Sean Kingston is now stabilised and has moved from the trauma unit to ICU,” said Joseph Carozza, Kingston’s spokesman. “Sean’s family thanks everyone for their prayers and support during this time.”

Kingston was driving the watercraft with a female passenger on board when the accident occurred, said Officer Jorge Pino, a spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Pino said the singer slammed into the Palm Island Bridge, which connects the MacArthur Causeway to Palm and Hibiscus islands. Both he and the passenger were thrown into the water.

Cassandra Sanchez, the passenger who was riding with Kingston escaped relatively unscathed, except for a sore jaw and ribs.

Kingston’s first single, ‘Beautiful Girls,' topped the Billboard charts for three weeks in 2007. In 2009, he released his sophomore album, 'Tomorrow'.
