Vybz Kartel, Jay Marc - Contributed

California-Based Dancehall artiste Jey 'The Lyricist' Marc says that since the release of his single, The Introduction to the Media, produced by Russian of Head Concussion Records, the song has been credited as a counteraction to Vybz Kartel's 'Lyricist' also produced by Russian.

The song, which premiered on YouTube, has been creating a buzz on the Internet, and grad-ually spread to Facebook. It is now a regular selection being sold by vendors along with Kartel's song.

Dean, a taxi operator in Montego Bay who was heard bumping the song in his car, told THE STAR that he bought the song on a CD compilation and has been hooked to it since. "Mi just buy a CD from a youth and mi get the song pon it, it shot man, the youth bad," he said bopping his head.

Jey 'The Lyricist' Marc hails from Portland, but resides in the United States where is enrolled at New York Film Academy at Universal Studios. However, the artiste says that dancehall music has been his main priority since age 10.

no grouse

As it relates to his so-called counteraction to Kartel's song, Jey Marc says he has no grouse with Vybz Kartel. "Vybz Kartel is an artiste who I respect. When I first heard Vybz Kartel in 2003, mi seh yes a di bredda dis." Jey Marc says that the only reason why he did the song was to let Jamaica know what he had to offer since he has been called 'The Lyricist' since the initial stages of his musical career.

"The song is not a diss song, contrary to what some people want to say, and if you listen to the song you will hear that," he said. However, some Gaza fans believe that lyrical punches are being thrown at Kartel.

One person commented on Youtube.com saying "Wanna be Kartel," and another said, "why everything Kartel duh people follow?" However, the majority of comments were in favour of Jey Marc's song. One person commented on his song saying "Yo a Gaza mi seh but this bad yuh... the man weh dislike this want a ... bax! Youth gwan duh yuh ting nuh watch some badmind ... ! Mi radio TUNNN UPP!!.

However, controversial lines like "Some bwoy write some simple little lines and call it lyrics, we combine words like osmosis and diffuse lyrics like physics," easily throw blows at any artiste proclaiming to be a lyricist.

Jey Marc who owns his own label, Starlight Music Group, also works with local producer Cordel 'Skatta' Burrell who produced a single called Warn Har, for which a music video is now in rotation on television stations locally and abroad. The artiste also hints of potential projects with Stephen 'Di Genius' McGregor.

The artiste is currently working on an album set for release in 2012.
