LONDON, UK (AP) — Virgin Atlantic says a plane from London to Jamaica was delayed after a deported immigrant tried to harm himself onboard.
The airline says the deportee was "involved in a self-harm incident" before the plane took off for Kingston from London's Gatwick Airport today.
Virgin declined to go into details of the incident.
Britain's Home Office says the man was a Jamaican who was being removed from the UK. It said the man has been taken to hospital with "superficial injuries".
The airline said the flight has been delayed to tomorrow.
It said the Boeing 747 aircraft was carrying 449 passengers, all of whom have been provided with hotel accommodation.
