Well-renowned Dancehall entertainer, L.A Lewis has announced his intentions to run for the position of Member of Parliament (MP) for West Kingston.
The self-professed “7 Star General” sent in a letter to the General Secretary; awaiting a response regarding the legitimacy of his candidacy. “I would run for Tivoli seat, I sent my letter to the general secretary and he is basically going through it now to see what his recommendation will be,” Lewis told the Jamaica STAR.
Lewis claims he was encouraged to seriously delve into politics by his fans that have been campaigning, via Facebook, for him to run for the post; including fans in Tivoli. Additionally, Lewis intimated that the recent citation & accompanying fine he received from the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) for allegedly spraying graffiti across walls in Kingston prompted him to make this decision.
"My fans and supporters spray up my name that they want to vote for me. I am a businessman that wears $50,000 clothes, plus my clothes are white, so how can I paint a wall, I'm much more classy than that. I would erect a billboard,” Lewis insisted. Furthermore, Lewis implied that a conspiracy has been formed against him; pointing out that the JLP & PNP’s paraphernalia have been painted on walls across Kingston & that they haven’t been warned or punished for such an action.
