Two proprietors were yesterday detained in connection with the seizure of hundreds of cartons of restricted bleaching creams in downtown Kingston.
THE STAR understands that the bleaching creams were seized during an operation between the Jamaica Customs Contraband Enforcement Team (CET) along with officers from the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
It is reported that the team visited several wholesalers on Princess and Barry streets where a total of 32,678 tubes of the restricted item were found and seized.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of the Ministry of Health.
Meanwhile, the Customs Department is again advising that importation and possession of these restricted goods without the requisite permits constitute a breach of the Customs Act, which is liable to a penalty of three times the value of the goods and forfeiture of those goods.
